Welcome to the Virginia Room!
Located at the Main Library in Downtown Roanoke, the Virginia Room holds the Libraries’ non-circulating historical and genealogical research resources. We are committed to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and making available materials of the Roanoke Valley and the Commonwealth of Virginia (and some material from states closely tied to Virginia through births, immigration, migration, or boundary.)
New Book - The Roanoke Valley in the 1940s
In collaboration with the Roanoke Public Library Foundation, local author and historian Nelson Harris has written a new book on the Roanoke Valley in the 1940’s. With years of research and thousands of newspapers and other resources scoured, this book contains invaluable information about life and happenings in the Roanoke Valley in a time period not covered by many books on Roanoke history. There are also over 300 photographs featuring life in the area in the ’40’s!
Copies are available now at any library in the City of Roanoke ($75.00, cash or check.) Contact the Virginia Room for further information!
