We moved to Roanoke in August 2007. The following month, Maddie (our granddaughter) was born in the Richmond area. Andrew, her brother, would arrive in July 2010. At age 5, we began summer visits with Maddie in Roanoke with her Pops and Nana. When asked what she likes about those visits, she reports "everything." Maddie, also, is quick to acknowledge that The Star is a special part of her visit. It has captured her imagination. We started on Maddie's first visit with an ice cream run shortly before dusk, passing The Star on the way home, brilliantly lit up and penetrating Maddie's being. On remembering her visits, she would strut into our home at Christmas time, saying she wanted to ride by The Star. So, her father would take all of us for sighting(s). Through the reports of Maddie and the Christmas drive by's, Andrew became drawn to The Star. Last Christmas, we drove up to The Star, and Andrew looked up at it exclaiming "Wow!" This past summer, Andrew joined Maddie for the summer visit with Pops and Nana. We did the ice cream and The Star drive by. We also visited The Star up close. With make believe stories of their creation, Maddie and Andrew raced in and out of the shrubbery around The Star for an extended period. So, at the end of the visit we asked Maddie and Andrew what they liked best. Maddie said, "everything." Andrew said, "The Star."
