The Mill Mountain Star has become a source of hope, strength, faith and serenity for me. In June, 2007 my 22 year old daughter checked herself into the women's recovery program at the Roanoke Rescue Mission. The mission and it's campus can be found from many vantage points around the valley nestled under the star atop Mill Mountain. My daughter graduated from the recovery program on August 8, 2008 and remained living at the mission, still under the Mill Mountain star, for an additional year as support staff. She, and all who know her, celebrate her ninth year sober and in recovery on May 5, 2016. The star is a constant reminder of her strength, her courage, her accomplishments; and, the wonderful opportunities available to us all in the Roanoke valley.
