On the morning of March 17, 2009 my (now) husband M. Jason Turner (of Roanoke Doesn’t Suck) asked me if I could get off work early so we could go listen to a Celtic group that was playing music up on Mill Mountain. I love Celtic Music (especially bagpipes) and I was really excited! I got off around 1pm that day and we drove up to the top of Mill Mountain. We walk to the overlook (thinking that would be the perfect place to set up a concert) and didn’t see anyone. We walked down the trail to the next overlook and didn’t see anything. I looked at Jason and asked him how he had heard about the concert and he said he’d read about it in the newspaper (with a completely honest looking face). We walked over to the Information Center to see if they had any information about the concert and they hadn’t heard about it either. Disappointed, we walked out and went back to the little overlook and sat at a picnic bench. Jason brings a box of cupcakes out of his bag and said, “Well, since we are here, we might as well eat these.” I was looking at the cupcakes to see which one I wanted. They all had St. Patrick’s Day decorations on them, except one…it had a ring pop stuck in the top. I heard something click in my head and I looked over to Jason and he’s got this ring box open and facing me. He was proposing! OMG! He was proposing on Mill Mountain! We had only been dating for 6 months at the time (I’d known him a couple months longer than that), but I knew he was the one. I said yes! On the way down the mountain, he even had the perfect song picked out to play, “All I Want Is You” from the Juno soundtrack. It was perfect! June 2010 we were married at the Vinton War Memorial in a small and beautiful wedding…since then we have done so much together. We make a great team!
