Letter From The Editor
We the last graduating class of Lucy Addison High School Burrell Memorial Hospital now embark upon the
commencement of our lives. We are proud and honored to be a part of this class. We shall continue to uphold the
high standards for which we were prepared.
Our preparation has come from our dedicated instructors Mrs. Smtih and Mrs. Stewart whom we love and
thank for our many and varied experiences. We have learned much, not only in class but also in our daily
activities in the area hospitals where we have been privileged to work and put our knowledge into practice .
Our yearbook is a reflection of the past eighteen months we have spent in preparation for our future. As you
leaf through this volume in future years, we hope that it will afford much pleasure as it brings back memories of
the classes, the activities, the smiles, the tears , and all the many important moments we have spent preparing
ourselves to serve the community in various capacities.
Our commencement is the beginning of our lives as we face the future, a future waiting, beckoning, and
challenging. We go now, alone, unafraid but with humility for we are prepared. We take with us only the most
precious memories silhouetted forever in our minds-of the last graduting class of Lucy Addison High SchoolBurrell Memorial Hospital.

Prophecy

It is time now five years later and the Anchors of the Class of 1972 are down. After graduation we all departed
and went our separate ways and now the time is here to take a toll and see where we are.
I, Shirley Williams arrived back in the Old Home Town from Washington, D.C. where I am working as an
Associated Degree Nurse at D.C. General to find that only a few of the old class members remain here.
The first person I called was Geraldine Bush, the old "Miss Bell", to find out that she is in California working
in one of those large modern day hospitals that we were reading about while in training.
I went shopping at Crossroads Mall and as fate would have it, whom should I meet but Marilyn Gentry to
discover that she is working at the Veterns Administration Hospital along with Mrs. Evelyn Clements, Mr. Carr
and Mr. Carmack. Oh yes! , I also discovered while talking to Miss Gentry that Miss Joanne Smith better known as
"Jo Jo" is in the Peace Corps stationed on the Island of Jamaica working in a new ho~pital.
Well it's Monday morning and I had to go to the Health Center to get some information and guess who I
met ... Mrs. Carrie Johnson who is in charge of a new government program of Nursing known as The Extended
Home Care Unit.
Miss Sandra Moore is doing Private Duty Nursing and getting more calls than she can handle.
By the way , I also learned that Mrs. Carolyn Hairston is only able to work part time at Lewis Gale because she
is now a Mother.
Miss Lo retta M. Ogden and Miss Gale Hale have taken to the bright lights of the "Big City" and a life of work
and good times too.
I stopped at Burrell Memorial Ho spital and whom should I meet but Rhonda Wright who is now married and
working in the hospital. I also learned that Mrs. Marty is still at Community Hospital and Brenda Mullenax has
taken a job in a big factory as an Industrial Nurse .
While at the hospital I stopped in the classroom to se Mrs. M. W. Smith our devoted forever giving teacher to
find her unchanged in all aspects of her fie ld . While talking to her, I asked how I might get in touch with the
other half of our teaching staff to find out that Mrs. R. J. Stewart had retired and was vacationing in Europe at
the present.
Well as I depart to go back to D.C., I have much fruit for thought . We have all dropped Anchors and I hope
successfully , rewarding and each's satisfaction .
