Six years ago, I decided to move to Roanoke (from Orlando) after reading and seeing pictures online of "the star" and other great things here. I decided that any city crazy enough to put a neon star on top of a mountain is my kind of place!
So back when we got the 1st super big snowfall after I became a Roanoker (19 inches), the 1st thought in my mind was to see how the star looked with lots of snow. People were having snowball fights and, of course, I joined in. I even got a picture of a small snowplow clearing the overlook. I love being a Roanoke Star !!!
My first hike after I moved to Roanoke was on the Star Trail. When I got to the top, I called my son (still living in FL) and told him to go to the Roanoke city website that shows people on the overlook at the star. I waved at him as we talked on the phone. (Way better than Skype!)
