SR001 Virginia Bridge & Iron

Description

The Virginia Bridge and Iron Works began in 1888 as the American Bridge Works, changing its name in 1893. Other branch plants were located in Memphis, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. The Roanoke Branch was involved in hundreds of bridge projects throughout the state and some commercial buildings. After World War II, the plant was purchased by the American Steel Company. The plant closed in the early 1960s.
