Title

Roanoke Story Initiative

Description

The Roanoke Story Initiative is a community-based project created by the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation and Roanoke Public Libraries to highlight historic communities and sites across the Roanoke Valley that are considered endangered due to threats to their physical survival, architectural integrity, or cultural value. This ongoing project includes story-sharing events where neighbors are asked to share documents, photographs, and their oral histories.

The first event was held on August 4, 2026 and highlighted the community of Cave Spring, which was listed on Preservation Virginia’s 2026 List of Endangered Sites, due to an influx of commercial development.
