DR-A086 Mr. Martin's Fish Mkt. on Gainsboro 1953

Gainsboro; Martins Fish Market; David Ramey.

Interior of a store. The walls and floor are wooden, with many shelves full of various products in cans, bottles, and boxes. There are three people, two with aprons, possibly employees, and one woman facing away and talking to one of the people in an apron. There is a large white cooler with fish inside and the second man with an apron has his hand inside of it. There are many signs along the back wall and on the front of the counter. Going from left to right they are "Crocker 40c Lb.", Spots 35c Lb", "Black Bass 45c Lb", "Lets stay friends, no credit", "1c deposit", along the wall. On the counter the signs read "Corn meal 25c", "Lard 30c", "Coak cola 7c". There is also a sink with a plunger on the left side. Words "Mr Martians fish mkt on Gainsboro 1953", are written on the bottom right corner. Signed by artist and dated 2009.

Story in Gainsboro Road and Beyond, p. 20. Back of drawing has "B-65" written with an arrow pointing towards it. "Martian fish mkt" is also written on the back. Displayed in the Harrison Museum of African American Culture Exhibit 2023-2024.
