Description

"Norfolk & Western's Locomotive Number 1218. Norfolk & Western Railway's Class 'A' (2-6-6-4), Number 1218, was built by the Roanoke Shops in June of 1943. After many years of Main Line service with the N&W, Number 1218 served as a stationary boiler for the Union Carbide Corp. at South Charleston, West Virginia. Number 1218 was rebuilt and again is in use on the Main Line, powering excursion trains and is viewed here at the former Norfolk & Western passenger station in Roanoke on June 15, 1987."
