Subject

Gainsboro; Gainsboro Road; Bowens Barber Shop; St. Andrew's Catholic Church; David Ramey.

Description

Interior of a barber shop. In the center there is a vanity and mirror set up, with various objects and hair products on the shelves. There is a man in a chair wearing a white cloth. Another man stands over him, holding a tool to the sitting man's head, cutting his hair. There are three signs on the back wall. One, over the mirror, reads "Hair- 75. Shave-50. Edge up- 25". The second one, directly next to the first, says "No Credit". The third sign, slightly lower on the wall, reads "James Brown, Jan 9th Start City Aud", and has a drawing of a start and music notes. A broom and trash can are set up on the right corner. On the left there is a window, where a large church can be seen, possibly St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Two people are standing outside the window. Inside, there is a man standing just below the window, both arms held away from his body. In front of him is a bench, where two men are sitting. One is reading the newspaper and the other is holding a glass. A half-empty bottle and empty glass is on the floor behind the bench. "Bowens Barber Shop Gainsboro" is written on the bottom right corner. Signed by artist and dated 1990.
