"The late David A. Ramey captured many images of Roanokers, from fellow Norfolk Southern employees to these African-American police officers from the segregated years of the 1960s. Community policing has deep roots in Roanoke. The officers pictured here - officers Taylor, Robinson, Perry, Fields, and Stovall - are remembered by many residents still for their visible presence; enforcement of order; and fair, community-minded approach."
