Description

Sign that says: “An American Farm Family: In the spring of 1829, 21-year-old Samuel Hofauger married Elizabeth Hays. He was German by descent and a farmer. She was the daughter of an English family on Back Creek in what is now Roanoke Country. Together they built this log house on the road between Big Lick and the Cave Spring (now Colonial Avenue) in what is now Roanoke County. Their descendants became part of a new generation that proudly called themselves American.”
