Explore Park.

Description

Sign with Elk that says “ Explore Park’s Blue Ridge Settlement Exhibit: You are about to embark on a journey. Like the Indians frontiersmen, and early settlers who preceded you, your path will lead through a wilderness abundant in life-sustaining resources such as timber, water, wildlife and valuable ores. The historic structures you will encounter, once threatened on their original sites by decay or development but here preserved for future generations, represent the lives of those English, German, and Scots-Irish settlers who chose Southwest Virginia as home in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is, however, only one chapter in a continuing story, as these homes were but stepping stones along a migratory trail that pushed the American frontier farther and farther west with each new generation.”
